How to transform a living room into a stylish and comfortable zone?

From watching movies to entertaining guests, the living room plays an important, multifunctional role in the home.

A living room, therefore, should not only be aesthetically pleasing but also ensure optimum comfort.

1. Create an Open Plan Design

Combining the living room with the dining area and kitchen creates a visually larger space. Instead of walls, use a sofa back table, semi-partition, rugs or planters to demarcate different zones without closing them off from each other visually.

2. Low-height Seating Arrangement

Make sure that the furniture is proportionate to the size of the room. Low-height sofas can make the ceilings look higher and allow the living room to appear more spacious. Sleek pieces of furniture with a limited footprint can make a small living room feel more spacious.

3. Opt for Movable Furniture Pieces

Light pieces of furniture that can be moved around allow you to create a dynamic layout, that can be changed according to your needs. Have a two or three-seater sofa placed against a wall with two chairs on the sides. Alternatively, consider an L-shaped furniture layout as per the shape and size of the living room.

4. Layered Lighting Scheme

Create a well-illuminated living room with a layered lighting scheme. When styling a small living room, avoid using floor lamps as they tend to take up precious floor space. Instead, use wall scones that exude warm lighting or recessed lighting in the false ceiling to create a warm and cosy atmosphere.

5. Hang Curtains from the Ceiling

Hanging curtains from the ceiling instead of the window frame will make the living room seem taller. You could also opt for Venetian blinds instead, as a sleeker alternative to curtains.

6. Introduce a Floating Media Unit

A floating media unit imparts visual lightness and does not take up precious floor space. An elegantly designed media unit can doubly act as hidden storage for multiple devices, speakers and the entire wiring system.

7. Limited Decor Accessories

Display accessories and wall art judiciously. Too many decor items in a small space can make it appear cluttered. Placing a mirror opposite a beautiful art décor will beautify a visually spacious room without spending anything extra.
