Vastu Shastra or Vastu is the ancient spatial science of positive spatial arrangements for a home.
A home with good Vastu ensures the mental and emotional well-being of all the people living in the house.
Modern homeowners prefer moving into ready apartments and homes, and their following Vastu becomes restricted.
We enlist the basic dos and don’ts that can be easily implemented by all.
1. Entrance

According to Vastu Shastra, the main entrance to a home is not only the entry point for the family but also energy. This area should therefore be kept tidy and clutter-free for attracting positivity. Include a neat and closed shoe rack in this space. Avoid storing unappealing utility items in this area, such as a broom or a dustbin. Ensure this place is well lit. You can always add artificial lighting as a substitute if you lack natural light in your foyer area.
2. Pooja Unit

The best direction for your pooja unit in your house is the northeast direction. The accurate direction should be made with a compass from the centre point of your house. If there is one direction you must avoid at all costs, that would be the south direction for your pooja unit. Steer clear of heavy storage in this area and ensure the pooja unit be kept simple and minimal. Installing a pyramid-shaped dome above the pooja unit increases positive vibration to the home.
3. Mirrors

Mirrors are one of those elements that beautify the space with the least amount of work. Anything that is seen in a mirror automatically reflects and multiplies. Using a mirror in your dining room is considered very auspicious. As per Vastu, it can amplify the food, health and wealth of the family if it reflects the food kept on the dining table. Avoid placing a mirror opposite a bed from where you could see your image while resting on the bed.
4. Wall Paint

Colours reflect a person’s personality and add substance to life. Vastu approved colours are a quick and easy way to usher in good vibes and positivity to your space. The selection of bright, earthy or pastel colours for your home is a great option to ensure that your space is soothing and relaxing. Pastel blues, airy greens, cheery yellows, rich shades of purple, earthy browns are Vastu approved colours.
5. Artwork

As per Vastu, choosing artwork or paintings for the home that inspires or makes you happy is very important. Often we see a lot of artwork that is so deep yet full of sadness, violence, disaster or cruelty. Images of the epic Mahabharata war, volcanoes or tsunami or a shipwreck should be avoided. Avoid selecting artwork or paintings that depict dullness or unhappiness of any kind.
6. Décor

By all means, avoid broken or dismembered statues for your home. Keeping any sort of a statue with a broken element is an absolute no-no when it comes to Vastu. Such as half a body of a man or a stuck face of an animal or any sort of a broken feature must be avoided. Stay away from displaying warfare elements such as daggers or any sort of weapons. This only projects negativity to your home.
7. Light

The way a house is lit with lighting is one of the most important elements for attracting positivity, as per Vastu. Natural sunlight essentially kills germs and negativity around the house. If you do not have the luxury of receiving lots of natural sunlight, you can always resort to a well-designed artificial lighting setup for your home.
8. Home Size

The furniture pieces in the home must be in proportion to the size of each room. Having too many furniture or décor pieces in a room or too little can be overwhelming. If there are too many existing pieces of furniture already, it is better to discard them or give them away rather than find a space for every décor piece.
9. Ceiling

The ceiling happens to be the most ignored yet makes the most impact visually and otherwise. As per Vastu, the ceiling of a home should be flat without any cuts or irregular carving. This helps attract positivity for the home and well-balanced life for the homeowners. Simple, elegant flat fall ceilings are recommended for homes as per Vastu.
10. Plants

Plants instantly boost the positivity and freshness of any space. Bamboos are a Vastu compliant plant that brings good luck to all the people in the household. The Holy Basil or Tulsi are considered auspicious as per Vastu. These plants have strong spiritual energy and are best when kept at the entrance or North-East corner of a home to emit positivity.
These simple and doable tips ensure your home radiates good vibes and positivity.
