A kitchen is a place where a family bonds over food. A well-planned and organized kitchen always gives a feeling of a satisfying cooking experience and directly impacts the well-being of a family. Down below are simple pointers that resort to the Universal Designing Principles and work wonderfully across every household.
1. Create Clusters – The kitchen triangle comprising the Sink-Stove-Refrigerator has been the predominant style for decades. However, our studies suggest clustering group-related activities create a more functional and dynamic kitchen. The Sink-Prepcounter-Stove can be put together for cooking, the Refrigerator-Microwave-Pantry for food storage, and so on. Vdesignspaces prefer to understand the working style of householders and create a customized cluster.
2. Keep Chaos at the Bay – The sink and the stove represent water and fire. They must be located in such a place that they are protected and away from the main walkways. Plan to keep them tucked away as much as possible. Let the trashcans be easily accessible yet tucked away near ventilated backdoors or under the sink to ward away insects or foul smells.
3. Rethink Maximum Light – Try to opt for maximize exterior views and natural light. Artificial lighting such as surface mounts, sconces, and under-cabinet strips can be installed for a glamourous look. Focused lights can be installed to highlight strategic work areas. Installing dimmer switches ensures that lights can be task-oriented as well as atmospheric.
4. Use Drawers & Doors– Cabinets should include both fully extended drawers and vertical drawers, as they serve different purposes. Drawers are useful to reach out to the back of the cabinet space. Ideal for dishes, mixing bowls and smaller pans. While vertical cabinets fitted in slots can accommodate more awkward shapes.
5. Choose Material Wisely – If you target a longer-lasting kitchen, ensure that the countertops, wall tiles, and floor tiles are durable and suitable for your work style. Make sure to install the best quality hinges as this is one area of the house used by every member of the family. A strong chimney keeps the stubborn grime away from the tiles, counter and cabinets.
6. Opt Seamless Designs– Designs should be such that it is functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. For example, the grout lines behind the cooking range are one of the most difficult areas to clean. Seamless backsplashes are in vogue, so go for guilt-free back-painted glass or stone backsplashes. If you want to have a clean kitchen all the time, it's best to opt for bare minimum open shelves or have none at all.
7. Comfortable Dining Area – Set up the dining room close to or adjacent to the kitchen area. Keep the three feet walkways and clearance around the table. Hang pendant lights or chandeliers from the tabletop to create cosy pools of light and draw diners’ attention to what’s most important – Good Food and Great Company.
