Sometimes decorating a large room can be equally challenging as decorating a small room. Especially when two living rooms are combined, it can get a little tricky when the outcome is an awkward-looking room. However, dealing with a larger space is a better challenge. After all, who does not love more space!
1. Visual Continuity - When decorating a large room, the décor of the entire space should have a flow and work together. For example, you may have a defined television watching space, a reading corner, a small gaming zone, and awell-defined conversation area; however, all these should have visual continuity to create individual spaces that work together as a whole.
2. Scale and Proportion - Perfect scale and proportion make a room warm and inviting. If your room is large but ceilings are low, keep the furnishings low to create an illusion of height. On the other hand, if your room has high ceilings, low to ground furniture might appear lost in space.
3. Paint two-toned walls - If you are living in a bungalow and the room ceiling is too high, painting colour on your walls only part of the way up creates a cosier feeling, tricking the eye into thinking the ceilings are lower than they are.
4. Big Seating Plan - Include furniture with round cushioned seats, as they tend to look better in a large room, instead of sleek modern furniture. Chairs with arms and skirted sofas can add layers of warmth to a large cold space.
5. Architectural Elements - Include architectural elements such as columns or mouldings to enhance and highlight spaces. These items work wonders to create warmth and beauty in a large room.
6. Select Larger Artifacts - Each element of a large room is important and should enhance your space. To avoid clutter, go larger with your decor elements. Artwork can be of a larger scale and so can the artefacts such as vases, chandeliers, and potted plants.
